Moussa Diaby could leave Aston Villa for Al-Ittihad this summer.
Nico Williams has been mentioned as a possible replacement by the team in passing.
According to Dharmesh Sheth, Villa can now compete in the same market as the most prominent European companies.
Dharmesh Sheth, a journalist for Sky Sports, told GIVEMESPORT that Aston Villa is operating in a different market this summer, which might aid in any possible pursuit of players like Nico Williams should the team sign a replacement for Moussa Diaby.
Unai Emery’s team faces a critical transfer window as they prepare for a season in Europe’s top competition for the first time in more than 40 years. After a fantastic two years under the Spanish coach, who led them back to the pinnacle of the game, last season’s top-four finish was strengthened.
With the signings of Ross Barkley, Enzo Barrenechea, Lewis Dobbin, Samuel Iling-Junior, Jaden Philogene, Cameron Archer, and Ian Maatsen thus far, Villa has had a busy start to the transfer window. A few players have left, including midfielder Douglas Luiz, who joined Serie A powerhouse Juventus.
Football in the Champions League could aid Nico Williams in his quest
According to Sheth, Villa may have an advantage in pursuing Williams because they are operating in a different market this summer. The Spain international is a top target for several elite European clubs this summer. It has a £53 million release clause in his Athletic Bilbao contract.
Williams has emerged as a possible replacement for Moussa Diaby should Villa lose another talented player this summer. However, any deal involving clubs like Barcelona would likely be challenging to complete. However, sporting director Monchi might take action if the right situation with the Spaniard or another winger presents itself.
Sheth thinks Villa would raise their profile if given the chance, and their offer of Champions League football would help them achieve their goals.
The reporter from Sky Sports informed GIVEMESPORT:
“If an opportunity was to arise that’s too good to turn down, of course they’ll be in the market for that.”
Aston Villa are now dealing in a different market, rather than going for some of the players they might have gone for before, they can go that step higher now because they can sell Champions League to potential incomings.”
“Who wouldn’t want Nico Williams? Barcelona are desperate to sign him, but whether they can meet that £53million release clause is another matter. We all know about Barcelona’s financial issues.”
Villa might make a sizable profit.
Villa’s participation in the Williams race depends on Diaby’s future. The 25-year-old winger, who only joined the team a year ago after leaving Bayer Leverkusen, is currently being pursued by Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.
The Athletic claims they have a long-standing interest in the France international and would give Villa a significant return on the £34.6 million they spent on Leverkusen the previous summer. Diaby’s contract at Villa Park expires in 2028, so the club would probably need to receive a sizable payment before considering a sale.
now at the ‘final’ stages
According to Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs are currently in the “final” stages of their negotiations, and a fee over £46 million is under discussion.
