Raheem Sterling’s options appear to be limited if he aims to revitalize his Premier League career by leaving Chelsea, according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who told GIVEMESPORT that rumors surrounding a potential swap deal with Crystal Palace star Michael Olise are ‘premature.’
Sterling became the first signing following Todd Boehly’s takeover of Chelsea when he joined from Manchester City for £50 million nearly two years ago. However, he has struggled to make a notable impact under head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
This season, Sterling has scored only eight goals across all competitions, leading to uncertainty about his future at Stamford Bridge. With plans underway to strengthen the squad in the upcoming summer transfer window, it remains to be seen whether he will still be a Chelsea player when the 2024/25 season begins.
TBR Football says the Chelsea management is looking to offload Raheem Sterling in the coming weeks. This has led Todd Boehly and other key decision-makers to consider offering him to Crystal Palace in a swap deal that would see Michael Olise head to Stamford Bridge.
The report indicates that Sterling has three years left on his contract, worth £325,000 per week, and is not eager to leave the capital. He has made it clear that he is not interested in the financial incentives offered by clubs in the Saudi Pro League, but Chelsea is optimistic that he may attract the Eagles’ attention.
Despite battling injury issues and playing only 1,099 minutes this season, Olise has scored more goals than Sterling and is firmly on head coach Mauricio Pochettino’s radar as he seeks reinforcements ahead of a potential return to European competition for Chelsea next season.
Respected journalist Ben Jacobs recently shared with GIVEMESPORT that Sterling is excited about the Chelsea project and enjoys living in London. This satisfaction led him to turn down an informal approach from a Saudi Arabian club less than a year ago, and he remains hopeful that leaving Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions, will ultimately prove beneficial.
According to Dean Jones, Chelsea is far from finalizing a swap deal that would send Raheem Sterling to Crystal Palace in exchange for Michael Olise. The former Liverpool star faces limited chances to regain his best form if he seeks a move to a London rival.
The reputable journalist notes that local clubs have yet to express interest in providing the 29-year-old a way out of Chelsea, with his salary expectations presenting a significant hurdle. Additionally, there are uncertainties about whether Mauricio Pochettino will secure Olise’s signature ahead of the next season.
Jones shared these insights with GIVEMESPORT.
“Raheem Sterling’s options in the Premier League are going to be few and far between, especially if he wants to stay in London.
“There has been talk about a potential swap deal for him to go to Crystal Palace and Michael Olise to move in the other direction, which is interesting but a bit premature at this stage.
“It is not certain yet that Chelsea will even go for Olise, as the last I heard it was not looking like they would actually make an offer, but let’s see how things shape up over the next month.”
Chelsea intends to sell Armando Broja upon his return from a loan spell at Fulham, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. It has been determined that the striker does not fit into Mauricio Pochettino’s long-term plans after struggling to make a significant impact since moving to Craven Cottage.
Romano notes that the Albanian international has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs and teams across Europe despite managing only 57 minutes of action in his current situation. As a result, Chelsea views the summer transfer window as the perfect opportunity to cash in on him.
Earlier in 2024, Chelsea placed a £50 million price tag on Broja when clubs like Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United showed interest. However, they were unable to finalize any deals, leading to his eventual loan move to Fulham in the final days of the winter transfer window.
