Mohamed Salah faces a “realistic chance” of leaving Liverpool this summer, according to journalist Ben Jacobs. The star forward is confronted with a significant decision regarding his future, especially as interest from the Saudi Pro League continues to intensify.
With Liverpool gearing up to usher in a new era with manager Jurgen Klopp set to depart at the end of the Season, incoming sporting director Richard Hughes and Fenway Sports Group’s chief executive of football, Michael Edwards, are actively searching for a successor.
The team’s ambitions to secure a treble have been dealt a considerable setback, particularly after a disappointing 3-0 loss to Atalanta in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final. Amid these challenges, uncertainty looms over Salah’s future at Anfield, heightening the speculation surrounding his potential move.
As reported Liverpool is preparing for a fresh offer for Mohamed Salah from the Saudi Pro League this summer. Al-Ittihad continues to pursue the Egyptian forward, while Al-Hilal is considering a competing bid.
The report indicates that Salah has already received a three-year contract offer, underscoring his impressive SeasonSeason, which has seen him contribute 36 goals. Once the current campaign concludes, a proposal estimated at around £70 million is anticipated to be submitted.
Ben Jacobs suggests that Jurgen Klopp’s decision to leave Liverpool might impact Mohamed Salah’s future at Anfield. While Jacobs believes the club is optimistic about convincing Salah to stay for the upcoming Season, he acknowledges that an exit remains a possibility, especially if Salah helps secure three trophies for this campaign. The esteemed journalist notes that had Klopp chosen to continue his tenure, Salah would likely be more inclined to remain with Liverpool.
Jacobs stated to GIVEMESPORT:
“I think that Liverpool know the value of Salah, and have realised there are lots of different ways that they can incentivise Salah to stay at the club if that is beneficial to them and the player.
“From Salah’s point of view, he has got a big decision to make as well. Does he feel like the time to leave Liverpool is alongside Jurgen Klopp and maybe with three trophies?
Does he want to be one of the experienced players that leads a new era under a different manager?
“If Klopp had stayed until 2026, it is almost certain that Salah would have been part of Liverpool’s squad for the 2024/25 season. But Klopp’s departure maybe changes the perspectives just a little bit.
“It is still not guaranteed that Salah will go to Saudi Arabia in 2024, but there is a realistic chance he goes.”
As reported by ESPN, Liverpool turned down a substantial £150 million offer from Al-Ittihad just hours before the close of last year’s summer transfer window. This move frustrated the Saudi Arabian club, as Salah was identified as one of their top targets at the beginning of the season.
The bid came after Klopp firmly stated that the 31-year-old forward would not be leaving the club, especially following his impressive tally of 30 goals during a season in which Liverpool missed out on Champions League qualification. In response, the Merseyside club clarified that Salah’s departure was not an option.
Mohamed Salah’s statistical averages per 90 minutes this SeasonSeason compared to the 2022/23 campaign
2023/24 | 2022/23 | |
Percentage of shots on target | 42.9 | 37.2 |
Progressive passes | 5.39 | 4.07 |
Key passes | 2.41 | 1.78 |
Expected goals | 0.79 | 0.59 |
Goals | 0.75 | 0.52 |
Assists | 0.39 | 0.33 |
However, Al-Ittihad and other interested clubs recognize that Liverpool will be in a less favorable negotiating position as they approach the 2024/25 season. With Salah entering the final year of his £350,000-per-week contract, they see this as a potential opportunity to strike a deal.
