Ivan Rakitic gave his new team a 1-0 victory at Damac on Friday, instantly making him a hero among Al-Shabab supporters.

After joining the Riyadh club from Sevilla at the end of January, the former Barcelona star quickly rose to prominence in the Roshn Saudi League.

And the Croatian did not disappoint anyone on Friday; whenever he got the ball, he exuded poise and class and always tried to make things happen.

With 82 minutes played, Musab Al-Juwayr, the substitute, touched the ball outside the area to his right. The score was 0-0 at that point. Everything was in place for Rakitic to make the first shot of the game, which was as straight as an arrow and continued to rise as it struck the Damac net’s back.

Not only was it a goal deserving of winning any game, but it was also deserving of starting the last third of the season as the league resumed play following the seven-week Asian Cup break.

The 35-year-old scored the thrilling victory and had more touches and passes than any other player. Additionally, there were encouraging indications of Yannick Carrasco’s link-up play.

With just his new team’s second win in the previous eight games, the star’s impressive debut ended with a goal.

Despite their unexpected struggles this season, the six-time champions are now in 10th place and out of the relegation zone after their victory.

Al-Shabab gained greater possession and control thanks to Rakitic’s passing and poise. Sanusi

Al-Hawsawi of Damac was dismissed halfway through the second half, benefiting the team.

After the loss, Damac is one point behind Al-Ittihad in sixth position with 30 points.

“I promised the club’s president that I would score my first goal against Damac, and it was great to succeed,” Rakitic said after the game. “I dedicate this victory to the fans.”

He added: “I know that the club had struggles in the first half of the season, but we are looking for a new start now.”

Additionally, Vitor Pereira, the former Porto manager who coached Al-Ahli ten years ago, had a successful debut as coach earlier this month.

Next week, he hopes the comeback continues when they play their local rivals Al-Nassr.

Rakitic added: “We have a full week before we face Al-Nassr and will prepare in the best way possible.”

While Al-Okhdood defeated Al-Ahli 3-2, there was excitement elsewhere.

After twenty-five minutes, Solomon Kvirkvelia’s goal tied the score, but Alex Collado gave the home team the lead. Roberto Firmino had time to make it 2-2 from the penalty spot before halftime. Still, Hamad Al-Mansour restored the lead after 43 minutes.

The Jeddah giants had opportunities to tie the score. Still, Leandre Tawamba’s goal on the hour put Al-Okhdood back ahead.

Roger Ibanez, who was sent off by Al-Ahli in extra time, is six points behind Al-Nassr in third place.

Al-Wehda and Al-Tai drew 1-1 in the other match of the day.

The leaders, Al-Hilal, take on Al-Raed on Sunday, while Al-Nassr plays at home against Al-Fateh on Saturday.
