Even though the Brentford star is looking for a big pay boost if he takes on an additional task before the summer transfer window closes next month, GIVEMESPORT sources have indicated that Manchester United may give Ivan Toney the chance to complete a move to Old Trafford.
After Joshua Zirkzee’s goals propelled Bologna to Champions League qualification, the Red Devils secured a £36.5 million deal for the Netherlands international, expanding their attacking options. However, manager Erik ten Hag is still looking for more players.
Leny Yoro has also transferred to Manchester United from Lille for a possible fee of up to £58.9 million. However, Dan Ashworth, the new sporting director, has not ruled out the prospect of raiding Premier League rivals after spearheading the FA Cup winners’ hiring campaign as the August 30 deadline approaches.
Ten Hag might decide to capitalize on the striker’s contract situation.
According to GMS sources, Manchester United may consider going to the negotiating table for Toney if his asking price falls below £40 million. Ten Hag has identified a possible window of opportunity to negotiate a low-cost deal after it has become evident that a new contract at Brentford is out of the question.
The striker has entered the final 12 months of his £20,000-per-week agreement at the Gtech Community Stadium. Although his current employers would like to convince him to sign fresh terms to protect his value, they are unable to meet his lucrative demands or match his ambition.
The arrival of Zirkzee has given Rasmus Hojlund competition for a regular starting spot. Still, according to GMS sources, Toney is reportedly seeking a contract worth up to £250,000 per week at a new club. Manchester United has held talks about making a move for his signature.
The 28-year-old, who has made 85 Premier League appearances and scored 36 goals, is favored to leave Brentford before the new season begins because he is prepared to move on to the next phase of his career. His accomplishments earned him a spot in the England squad for Euro 2024.
According to GMS sources, Toney is not ruling out the prospect of playing for the West Londoners for an additional season. At that point, he would become a free agent and be able to choose his next challenge without his supporters having to get involved in club-to-club negotiations.
Arsenal and Chelsea have decided not to submit a bid before the deadline.
GMS sources have been informed that Toney has made his way onto Al-Ahli’s list of possible recruits, including Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison and Napoli marksman Victor Osimhen. As a result, the Saudi Pro League is expected to be Manchester United’s biggest rival for Toney’s services.
Chelsea isn’t vying for the England international; they should have been prioritized when new head coach Enzo Maresca took over. Additionally, a move to Arsenal is unlikely unless A free agent before the 2025–2026 season.
Although GMS sources understand that Brentford has not yet received an approach from Al-Ahli or bids from any other suitors, Manchester United is aware that Thomas Frank, the manager of the Bees, will not want Toney to leave without collecting a fee, having previously valued him at £100 million.
Even though the former Newcastle United player is content with his current situation, the capital club will likely have to settle for less than half that amount because this is their last chance to command a high price after contract renewals are ruled out.
According to GMS sources, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United have also declined to rule out the possibility of testing Brentford’s resolve with a lowball offer, but they haven’t made any real attempts to close a summer deal.
