As GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed, Manchester City star Ederson may be given the chance to sign a better deal as manager Pep Guardiola considers whether to start talks about new terms to keep him at the Etihad Stadium rather than joining Saudi Arabian big-spenders Al-Nassr.
During the 2023–24 season, the Sky Blues made history by becoming the first team to win the English top-flight title four seasons in a row. However, there is still uncertainty regarding whether critical players will still be on the roster of the defending Premier League champions when the new season begins.
After being named director of football in October 2012, Txiki Begiristain has been in charge of Manchester City’s transfer activity for over ten years. He is closely collaborating with Guardiola to ensure the team is well-positioned to contend for more awards after the August 30 deadline.
Guardiola is trying to persuade Brazilians not to relocate to Saudi Arabia.
According to GMS sources, Manchester City is prepared to talk to Ederson about new terms to ensure that his contract uncertainty doesn’t extend into preseason. Meanwhile, Guardiola is still eager to convince Ederson to stick with his current situation rather than take on a new challenge.
As a result, the Saudi Pro League team Al-Nassr is looking for a window of opportunity to strike a deal and see the goalkeeper seal a reunion with former Sky Blues teammate Aymeric Laporte. The goalkeeper has entered the final two years of his £100,000-per-week contract at the Etihad Stadium.
According to GMS sources, Manchester City is said to be worth £50 million for Ederson. However, his supporters are unwilling to pay that amount and, in a surprising development, are willing to back out of a possible deal and focus on other targets before the deadline.

The Brazil international played in 43 games and kept 16 clean sheets in the 2023–24 season, but injuries kept him out of action at different points in the season, and he missed important matches in the FA Cup, Champions League, and Premier League.
There is uncertainty over whether a switch will be finalized in the upcoming weeks, despite recent reports from GMS sources indicating that Al-Nassr is willing to make Ederson the highest-paid shot-stopper in the world. If he moves to Al-Awwal Park, he could earn up to £500,000 a week.
Champions might have to compete with a better offer.
GMS sources have learned that Al-Nassr needs to step up his efforts to sign Ederson in the next few days because Manchester City wants to avoid a scenario in which their first-choice custodian leaves during the final stages of getting ready for the quickly approaching 2024–25 season.
Although the nine-time Saudi Pro League title-winners tested the Sky Blues’ resolve with a £25 million offer last week, the proposal fell short of the 30-year-old’s valuation, and his current employers will only consider sanctioning his Etihad Stadium departure if an improved bid is received.
Al-Nassr is steadfast in its refusal to budge against Manchester City’s lucrative demands, but GMS sources have been informed that up to £35 million could be offered in an effort to force Guardiola to make a tough choice and find out if Ederson is willing to press for a switch to be approved.
