According to GIVEMESPORT sources, Mohamed Salah, a star player for Liverpool, may make a big U-turn and try to complete a move away from Anfield before the summer transfer deadline if he doesn’t think manager Arne Slot can succeed in continuing to build on Jurgen Klopp’s successful tenure.
The Dutch tactician was lured away from Eredivisie giants Feyenoord by the Reds, who paid up to £9.4 million in compensation. The Dutchman has been looking to change the team he inherited ahead of his first season as manager. The Reds have embarked on a new chapter in their history.
There are still worries about how Liverpool will perform as they contend for championships in the upcoming season, despite Slot’s impressive record of 131 victories from 210 games as manager. He faces a challenging task in trying to build on Klopp’s legacy.
Al-Ittihad is still keeping an eye on the circumstances in Egypt.
According to GMS sources, Salah is determined to concentrate on how things are going at Liverpool under Slot. If there are concerning signs before traveling to newly promoted Ipswich Town on August 17, there is a serious chance that his availability will change during the remainder of the transfer window.
The Egypt international is in the final year of his Anfield deal, which could earn him up to £400,000 a week if bonuses are activated. He plans to stay in his current surroundings even though the Reds’ hierarchy worries that he could become a free agent at the end of the rapidly approaching season.
Though they first acknowledged that it would be nearly impossible to get a deal over the line after another prolific term, GMS sources based in Saudi Arabia are confident that Salah is using pre-season to get a proper gauge of how life will be in the post-Klopp era. As a result, teams like Al-Ittihad are still on high alert.
The attacker has been with the Reds since June 2017, when he completed a £34 million transfer from Serie A side Roma. Following victories in the Champions League and Premier League, the attacker has been a target for the Saudi Pro League, who want to add players with flair.
Having only played under Klopp since returning to the English top flight following a disappointing stint at Chelsea, GMS sources have learned that Salah’s relationship with Slot will be critical in deciding whether he wants to stay on Merseyside. At this point, enjoying a new challenge cannot be ruled out.
Supporters in Saudi Arabia had anticipated the attacker staying at Anfield.
According to GMS sources, Al-Ittihad was ready for a massive deal to sign Salah and bring him to the Saudi Pro League. However, they have not entered into formal negotiations, and the situation has not moved forward because they thought their transfer target would remain at Liverpool.
Since the Reds’ 32-year-old talisman was deemed unattainable when the transfer window reopened last month, the Jeddah-based team signed Moussa Diaby from Aston Villa for £50 million. However, they are still monitoring his situation in anticipation of possibly providing an escape route near the deadline.
According to GMS sources, Al-Ittihad is prepared to strike if Salah is dissatisfied and does not think silverware will be forthcoming under Slot, but Liverpool is desperate to have him in their lineup as they aim to challenge for the Premier League title.
The former Basel and Fiorentina player was just named by GMS as one of the greatest attackers in Reds history, emphasizing how hard he would be to replace should he decide to leave the team after having concerns about Klopp’s successor’s ability to lead Anfield.
