Miguel Almiron’s time at Newcastle United is ending, as he is expected to “certainly move on” before next season. Transfer insider Dean Jones reported to GIVEMESPORT that head coach Eddie Howe will evaluate his squad closely in search of ways to generate funds.

The Magpies recently signed Manchester City talent Alfie Harrison in a deadline-day deal valued at up to £3.5 million. However, they could not spend more due to concerns about breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations. Chief executive Darren Eales has acknowledged that some of Newcastle’s prominent players may need to depart in the coming months, attracting interest from other clubs as the summer transfer window approaches.

Respected journalist Ben Jacobs recently informed GIVEMESPORT that Miguel Almiron rejected joining Al-Shabab during the final days of the winter transfer window. Despite presenting a lucrative contract, the Saudi Pro League club refrained from making a formal offer once it became clear they couldn’t persuade him.

Jacobs noted that Al-Shabab had initially reached a verbal agreement with Paraguay International, which became Newcastle’s record signing when he transferred from Atlanta United for £21 million five years ago. While Almiron has two-and-a-half years left on his £60,000-per-week contract and continues to perform consistently for Newcastle,

Al-Shabab sought to test the club’s resolve following chief executive Darren Eales’ comments about potential issues with complying with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations.

Newcastle reportedly set a £30 million price tag on winger Miguel Almiron when it became evident that he was in demand from the big-spending Saudi Pro League. Given the uncertainty surrounding their financial situation, the club was open to selling him before the Thursday 11 PM deadline.

After rejecting Al-Shabab’s initial offer of £17 million, Newcastle made it clear they wouldn’t sell Almiron for a low price, despite him being labeled as a player available for transfer. The Saudi club conceded defeat in their pursuit after a week of negotiations with Newcastle. Almiron’s decision to decline the move gave them little time to explore alternative targets.

Jones has not dismissed the possibility of a significant overhaul of Newcastle’s squad at the end of the season. This comes in light of Eales’ confirmation that the club needs to generate cash through player sales. He believes Almiron will be one of those players involved in the potential mass exodus following the collapse of his move to Al-Shabab. The respected journalist is confident that the South American forward will find a new club when the transfer window reopens, making it unlikely that he will be part of Howe’s plans for the 2024/25 season.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT:

“I think we will see a reasonable overhaul of that Newcastle team in the summer. Newcastle made it pretty clear that they didn’t have massive potential to spend in the transfer market.

“Between now and the summer, I think we will see a big push to define exactly who is going to be part of the squad going forward. I think they will have a big commercial push to bring in extra money and revenue.

“Players like Almiron will certainly move on. He won’t be at Newcastle next season even though he didn’t move during the winter window.”

Guimaraes Linked with Summer Move to France

According to the Mirror, Paris Saint-Germain is optimistic about securing Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes this summer. They have already initiated discussions with his representatives, aiming to get ahead of La Liga giants Real Madrid. The reigning Ligue 1 champions have intensified their efforts after learning of Newcastle’s concerns regarding potential spending rule violations and may seek to activate a release clause of around £100 million during negotiations for the defensive midfielder, who has made over 30 appearances this season.

Respected journalist Jacobs recently informed GIVEMESPORT that Guimaraes is content at St James’ Park and has no desire to push for a move before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

However, he cautioned that PSG could initiate talks in the coming months. Newcastle signed the Brazil international from Lyon for £40 million in January 2022, and he had also attracted interest from Arsenal, with Manchester United sending scouts to observe him.

Guimaraes is currently Newcastle’s highest-paid player, earning £160,000 per week. Allowing his transfer to PSG before the 2024/25 season could help ease the pressure on the club’s wage bill.
