St. Louis City SC is nearing an agreement to acquire forward Simon Becher from AC Horsens, according to sources. Becher has already traveled to St. Louis in anticipation of the transfer.
The 24-year-old forward first gained prominence with the Vancouver Whitecaps, where he scored eight goals and provided two assists in 802 minutes. After moving to Denmark this winter, Becher managed three goals in over 1,100 minutes with AC Horsens.
Becher’s potential return to St. Louis is a notable one as he previously starred at Saint Louis University from 2019 to 2021. Drafted in the first round of the 2022 MLS SuperDraft by Vancouver, he worked his way from the second team to a spot on the first team. A move to St. Louis City represents a homecoming of sorts for the forward.
This signing would be a crucial addition for St. Louis City, who are revamping their attack this summer. The club has already added forward Cedric Teuchert and attacking midfielder Marcel Hartel. Teuchert debuted in the 1-1 draw against Sporting KC, and Hartel is set to make his debut soon. This new signing, along with the recent arrivals, aims to strengthen the squad’s offensive capabilities as the team seeks to climb up the standings and raise their game for the rest of the campaign.
After a record-breaking expansion season in 2023, St. Louis City SC has struggled in 2024, sitting second-bottom in the Western Conference with 23 points from 25 matches. The upcoming signing of Simon Becher from AC Horsens is expected to strengthen their attack and help the team climb the standings. Alongside Becher, St. Louis has also made key additions this summer, including forward Cedric Teuchert and attacking midfielder Marcel Hartel, as they aim to turn their season around and improve their overall performance.
San Diego FC has added Northern Ireland international defender Paddy McNair to their roster as a free agent, according to sources. The club is working on arranging a loan deal for McNair until the winter, when they will begin their preseason camp. San Diego FC will join MLS in the 2025 season.
McNair, 29, has earned 49 caps for Northern Ireland and was most recently with Middlesbrough in the Championship. A product of Manchester United’s academy, McNair is versatile, playing both central defense and defensive midfield. He spent the majority of his career with Middlesbrough and Sunderland after a brief stint with United, where he made 27 first-team appearances.
As San Diego FC prepares for its inaugural MLS season, the club has already signed four players to MLS contracts, including Mexican star Hirving “Chucky” Lozano, who will remain with PSV until the winter. Danish internationals Jeppe Tverskov and Marcus Ingvartsen from FC Nordsjaelland have also joined the squad, along with American goalkeeper Duran Ferree.
San Diego FC shares ownership with FC Nordsjaelland and the Right to Dream academy. The club had discussions with legendary Spanish defender Sergio Ramos, but the sides could not agree on salary terms. Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne has expressed openness to joining MLS but has not progressed beyond preliminary discussions with San Diego.
The club is still in the process of hiring a head coach but is making progress with its roster. Following the typical expansion team strategy, San Diego FC is signing key international players this summer and will focus on core domestic signings in the winter. With the additions of defender Paddy McNair, Mexican star Hirving Lozano, Danish duo Jeppe Tverskov and Marcus Ingvartsen, and American goalkeeper Duran Ferree, the team is off to a strong start as they prepare for their inaugural MLS season in 2025.
