FOOTBALL NEWS TODAY has learned from sources that the LA Galaxy and free agent Marco Reus are nearing a contract.

Though there’s still work to be done, Reus wants the Galaxy and the Galaxy wants Reus. The negotiation process, with a number of fundamental agreements already made, is a source of suspense and anticipation. The last few details still need to be worked out, and sources are certain that this is taking place.

Reus, according to sources, sees LA Galaxy as his final club.Despite more financially lucrative offers, Reus has made it clear that he is not interested in moving to Saudi Arabia. This decision, revealed by GiveMeSport last week, has made the Galaxy more optimistic about the deal.

For the signing to proceed, the Galaxy must still make room under the MLS salary cap. This cap, which limits the total sum of money that a team is permitted to pay its players, is a key factor in MLS player acquisitions. Fabrizio Romano first reported that a deal was close.

The 35-year-old Reus left Borussia Dortmund this summer after his contract ran out. For the team, he totaled 170 goals and 131 assists.

Reus was one of the world’s best and most captivating wingers at his best. He concluded the 2013–14 season with 43 games, 23 goals, and 22 assists. He had 21 goals and 13 assists in 36 games in 2018–19.

In just over 2000 minutes of action for Dortmund this season—a campaign that saw the German team advance to the Champions League semifinals—he proved he still had plenty of gas left in the tank, even though he started to play more as a rotational option toward the end.

MLS clubs allow three designated players (DPs) whose salaries are uncapped. The maximum salary for each other player on the team is $1.7 million for this season. Joseph Paintsil, Gabriel Pec, and Riqui Puig are the three DPs for the Galaxy.

Although tied for first place in the Western Conference with Real Salt Lake and rival LAFC, the Galaxy are third in the standings. They are eagerly anticipating the inclusion of Reus into their already excellent offensive lineup, which ranks among the best in the league. His potential impact is a source of excitement for the team and its fans.

Head coach Greg Vanney, who might soon have an embarrassing amount of wealth, will decide how Reus fits in.Pec and Paintsil, the DP Wingers, have performed admirably in their first season, and Puig, the No. 10 player, is among the most gifted players in the MLS. Diego Fagundez, an adaptable attacker who has garnered praise for his play this season, is a legitimate starter in his own right. The competition for starting minutes among six players for just four spots, with Dejan Joveljic at the top, adds an intense dynamic to the team’s lineup.

Reus wants to join the Galaxy if he moves to Major League Soccer. Still, Charlotte FC attempted to sign him and may have offered him more money. For Reus’ Discovery Rights, Los Angeles and Charlotte FC have already agreed. Before signing a player, MLS teams must obtain the player’s rights. In most cases, Allocation Money only changes hands if the player signs; however, in this instance, Charlotte will get paid in advance regardless of whether the deal is completed.

Reus preferred Los Angeles, but St. Louis City—home of his close friend and former teammate Roman Burki—also piqued his interest.
