The Exciting news from the soccer world! The LA Galaxy and the talented free agent attacker Marco Reus are currently in active talks, with both parties optimistic about a potential deal.
Negotiations have been going on for over a month. During the Champions League final, the Galaxy and Reus’s camp met. The Galaxy’s cap on what they can give Reus—$1.7 million per season—means that the negotiations aren’t easy.
The MLS clubs allow three designated players (DPs) whose salaries are uncapped. The maximum salary for each other player on the team is $1.7 million for this season. Joseph Paintsil, Gabriel Pec, and Riqui Puig are the three DPs for the Galaxy.
Europe and the Middle East are further sources of options for Reus. The belief is that he would have signed in the Middle East by now if all he wanted was a significant financial package.
Reus wants to join the Galaxy if he moves to Major League Soccer. Still, Charlotte FC attempted to sign him and may have offered him more money. For Reus’ Discovery Rights, Los Angeles and Charlotte FC have already agreed. Before signing a player, MLS teams must obtain the player’s rights. Allocation money typically only changes hands in these transactions if the player signs; however, in this instance, Charlotte will get paid in advance regardless of whether the deal is completed.
As of now, the LA Galaxy are holding a strong third position in the Western Conference table, comfortably securing a playoff spot. This is a promising sign for the team’s future.

In just over 2000 minutes of action for Dortmund this season—a campaign that saw the German team advance to the Champions League semifinals—he proved he still had plenty of gas left in the tank, even though he started to play more as a rotational option toward the end.
Reus was among many well-known players that Germany did not include on its Euro 2024 roster. The team is still young, so having players like Reus around may still be beneficial, but his international career is over.
For an MLS team like the Galaxy, that wouldn’t necessarily be the worst-case scenario. Sometimes, The MLS breaks conflict with international breaks (MLS is still going during the Euros), which means teams may have to play without their best players who are representing their country abroad.
With 48 senior caps, Reus has 15 goals for Germany.
