Robert Lewandowski has risen to third place in Europe’s top five divisions in the all-time top scorer charts.

The Barcelona striker scored twice in Sunday’s victory over Sevilla, bringing his total number of goals for the team to 73. It was his 365th and 366th goal in the major European domestic league competitions.

With a remarkable tally of 366 goals, Robert Lewandowski has moved ahead of a familiar rival in the record books. The legendary German striker Gerd Müller, whose record for the most Bundesliga goals in a calendar year was eclipsed by the Polish international in 2021, has dropped the rankings as Lewandowski surpasses his total of 365 goals.

This achievement sees Lewandowski rise to joint third place alongside Tottenham Hotspur icon Jimmy Greaves, both sitting on 366 goals, while trailing only behind the illustrious duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Ronaldo concluded his time in European football with an impressive 495 goals and had previously topped the scoring charts before Messi extended his tally to 496 in 2023. The Argentine reached this remarkable figure in 577 matches during his illustrious careers in La Liga and Ligue 1. In contrast, Ronaldo required 626 appearances across the Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A to achieve his milestone.

At 36 years old, Lewandowski’s chances of catching up to these two legends appear slim. However, if he maintains his current scoring pace, he could realistically break the 400-goal barrier by the end of the season, adding another remarkable achievement to his illustrious career.

Mikel Merino Discusses Martin Ødegaard’s Evolution Since Their Time Together at Real Sociedad

Mikel Merino has shared his insights on how Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard has evolved and matured since their days together at Real Sociedad. The Norwegian midfielder spent pivotal early years in his professional career on loan at Real Sociedad from Real Madrid in 2019. During his time in La Liga, Ødegaard made 36 appearances, contributing seven goals and nine assists before returning to Madrid and making a significant move to Arsenal in 2021.

Since then, Ødegaard has thrived in the Premier League, earning the captain’s armband after just one season with the Gunners. He has led Arsenal in closely contested title races over the past two seasons. Merino, who played alongside Ødegaard during their time in Spain, believes that the 25-year-old has significantly developed as a player and a leader since his days in the Basque Country.

“It has been a long journey for him and for me,” the 28-year-old told reporters. “That finishes now playing together again. We played maybe four, five or six years ago. I saw him as this really talented kid that was just magic in the number 10 position.

“He made my job really easy because he’s the one who moves really good in the pockets, he turns, plays quick and for me, as a number eight back in the day, I used to find him a lot and he used to make my passes better. It’s amazing how he has evolved and developed.

“Now he’s a grown man, the captain, the leader of this club and you can hear the maturity in his voice, how he acts, talks to people and behaves on the pitch. It’s great to be back with him again and hopefully we can keep building that relationship and connection that we have.”

Mikel Merino made his first start for Arsenal in their frustrating 2-0 defeat against Bournemouth on Saturday. The match proved particularly challenging for the Gunners, who had to contend with just ten men after William Saliba received a red card for fouling Evanilson in the first half.

The Spanish midfielder contributed significantly, playing 81 minutes before being replaced by 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri. Meanwhile, Martin Ødegaard has yet to return from his injury during the September international break.
