With a brace, Kylian Mbappe opened his La Liga career at the fourth attempt, helping Real Madrid defeat Real Betis 2-0 at home.
The fact that Mbappe had not scored in Madrid’s first three league games caused the champions to lose at Las Palmas and Mallorca.
On Sunday, things were different. Eight minutes later, Mbappe made it 2-0 for all three points from the penalty spot at Santiago Bernabeu. A magnificent Federico Valverde flick set him up for a goal in the 67th minute.
Girona defeated Sevilla 2-0 thanks to goals from Ivan Martin in the 41st minute and an Abel Ruiz penalty kick with 17 minutes remaining.
Real Sociedad and Getafe drew 0-0 in Madrid, Osasuna defeated Celta Vigo in a thrilling five-goal match, and Alaves defeated Las Palmas 2-0 at home.
The season’s first Bundesliga goal was scored by Harry Kane as Bayern Munich defeated Freiburg 2-0.
In the 38th minute, Kane scored from the penalty spot. Thomas Muller, brought on for his 710th appearance for Bayern, added a second goal to cap off an incredible day for the attacker.
In another match in Germany, Heidenheim thrashed Augsburg 4-0.
Juventus and Roma could not be separated at Allianz Stadium, and they were forced to share the victory following a scoreless draw.
Como, led by Cesc Fabregas, is currently bottom of Serie A after losing 1-0 away to Udinese and Hellas Verona defeating Genoa 2-0 away.
After Fiorentina rallied from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw at home against Monza, Robin Gosens’ stoppage-time goal earned them a point.
After an outstanding solo goal from Bradley Barcola, Paris St. Germain won 3-1 at Lille to make it three wins in a row.
After 33 minutes, Vitinha gave PSG the lead from the penalty spot. Three minutes later, Barcola drove the ball forward, passed to Marco Asensio, and curled into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.
Lille managed a comeback through Edon Zhegrova. However, Randal Kolo Muani sealed the victory with a header in the closing moments.
A 1-1 draw between Monaco and Lens was followed by Nice’s superb 4-1 victory at Angers.
After defeating Auxerre 3-1, Le Havre defeated Rennes 2-1 to start the season on a positive note for themselves.
Following Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Real Betis, Kylian Mbappe expressed relief at finally scoring his first goal in La Liga.
After failing to score in his first three games in Spain’s top flight, Mbappe drew a lot of criticism. However, the summer acquisition ended his skepticism when he scored twice for Los Blancos in a desperately needed victory.
“It was a great moment,” Mbappe reflected. “I had been hoping to score in this legendary stadium, which I consider the best in the world.”
“I feel great here. I’ve said it since I arrived, I’m happy. The fans and everyone at the club have shown me a lot of affection, even when I wasn’t scoring.
“For some players, three games without a goal might not seem like much, but for me, it felt like a lot. Still, the support from the club and the fans has been incredible. It gives me the confidence to give my all for this club and its badge.”
Mbappe’s criticism mainly focuses on his ability to collaborate with fellow superstar Vinicius Junior; many have suggested the two are incompatible players. But those doubts vanished as soon as the Brazilian allowed Mbappe to score his second goal from the penalty spot.
“We are young and famous, it’s normal for people to talk about us,” Mbappe said about his relationship with Vinicius. “The coach says that we both take penalties. I don’t want to force things, that’s not my mentality.”
Finally, Mbappe rejected claims the pressure of becoming Madrid’s next Cristiano Ronaldo had weighed him down.”
“I don’t feel the pressure,” he stressed. “I don’t think about Cristiano, with all due respect to him.”
“Cristiano is my idol, yes. But no, I don’t want to follow anything. I don’t want that pressure. I want to be Kylian. I only have the pressure of having to adapt to the team.”
