LA LIGA has officially entered a groundbreaking broadcast agreement with China Media Group (CMG), marking CMG’s return as the official broadcast partner of LALIGA in China. The partnership was solidified during a signing ceremony in Beijing, attended by LA LIGA President Javier Tebas and the CPC Central Committee’s Vice Minister Publicity Department Shen Haixiong, President of CMG. This deal highlights LALIGA’s commitment to expanding its reach in the Chinese market. It gives millions of fans nationwide access to live Spanish football matches via CMG’s extensive platforms for the 2024/25 season.
Senior officials from CMG, LA LIGA, and Mediapro participated in the ceremony. Among the CMG attendees were key figures such as Qi Zhuquan, Director of the International Exchange Bureau, and Liang Jianzeng, Director of the General Editorial Office. From LALIGA, Greater China Managing Director Sergi Torrents and Global Director of Communications Leticia De Zuloaga were present, while Mediapro was represented by Chairman and Co-founder Tatxo Benet and Asia CEO Pilar Jimenez.
In his speech, Javier Tebas emphasized the significance of the agreement, noting that “China remains a key market for LALIGA” and that this partnership aligns with Spain’s diplomatic efforts to strengthen ties with China. Tebas also acknowledged the potential of football as a link to promote understanding between the two countries.
The timing of the agreement coincides with Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s state visit to China from September 8-11, 2024. LALIGA, as part of the Prime Minister’s official delegation, participated in high-level meetings, including the China-Spain Business Advisory Council and a luncheon with Premier Li Qiang. This collaboration builds on an MOU signed in July during Shen Haixiong’s visit to LALIGA’s Madrid headquarters, establishing a foundation for deeper cooperation between the two entities.
LALIGA and CMG are committed to enhancing football exchanges between Spain and China, strengthening strategic collaborations, and enriching cultural ties through the sport.
