On Wednesday, Espanyol, in La Liga, revealed two significant new signings.
This move comes as Stage Front Stadium management works to give the team the strongest chance of securing its place in the top division for the 2025/26 season.
The first to join the squad in Barcelona is new midfielder Alex Král.
The 26-year-old, who has played at Spartak Moscow and West Ham United, has been acquired on a season-long loan from his current team, Union Berlin.
According to a statement posted on Espanyol’s website and social media channels:
‘RCD Espanyol and FC Unió Berlin have reached an agreement for midfielder Alex Král (Kosice (Slovakia), 19-05-1998) to play on loan for the white-and-blue team this season. Král passed the relevant medical examination this Wednesday at the Corachan Clinic.’
As mentioned earlier, however, the Periquitos’ latest transfer activities still need to be completed…
This also includes manager Manolo González receiving essential support for the attacking positions.
The second new addition that is ready to feature for Espanyol this season is Alejo Véliz.
Striker Alejo Véliz spent the latter half of last season playing in La Liga with Sevilla.
Although his initial spell in Spain did not unfold as expected, the Argentine will have the opportunity to set things straight in the 2024/25 campaign.
Véliz has also secured a deal with Espanyol, joining on loan from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
‘RCD Espanyol and Tottenham Hotspur have completed the transfer of Alejo Véliz (Gödeken (Argentina), 19-09-2003), who will play for the white-and-blue team this season.’

This week, La Liga giants Barcelona finalized a deal to secure a crucial financial boost.
According to Què T’hi Jugues, which on Wednesday shared details about the latest happenings in the Catalan capital.
Barcelona has been seeking new funding to comply with the transfer market’s 1:1 financial fair play rule.
Until now, such investments have arrived gradually, primarily through sponsorship deals and other avenues.
However, as mentioned earlier, this week, the Camp Nou board finally secured the significant financial boost they had been anticipating for some time.
This boost comes from the €40 million that Libero initially promised Joan Laporta and his team in exchange for a stake in Barca Studios last October.
When the German firm failed to deliver the payment, another investor, Aramark, stepped in to cover the sum.
According to Què T’hi Jugues, the deal was officially finalized with the signing of the agreement on Tuesday.
‘Aramark is the company that has replaced Libero.
‘The current supplier and sponsor of the club signed the agreement yesterday to assume the non-payment of the 40M euros from last October.’

On Wednesday, Celta Vigo revealed a new signing to strengthen their midfield.
No other players are joining the Celestes for the upcoming season, Ilaix Moriba.
Moriba’s name is already familiar throughout the Spanish football scene.
At just 21 years old, Moriba was once regarded as one of the top emerging talents from Barcelona’s renowned academy during the early stages of his career.
Moriba eventually chose to leave the Catalan capital, and his career has since experienced a downward trajectory.
Since joining RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021, the Guinea international has made only two league appearances.
Instead, most of his playing time has been spent in La Liga, where he has had loan spells with Valencia and, more recently, with Getafe last season.
As mentioned earlier, Moriba will continue his career in Spain for the 2024/25 season.
This follows the confirmation that the promising midfielder has signed a contract with Celta Vigo.
The arrangement is a season-long loan, with the option for the Celestes to make the transfer permanent in the summer of 2025.
