On Friday, the financially challenged La Liga giants Barcelona received a potentially substantial financial uplift.
This opportunity arises from a bid for a promising young defender within the club’s ranks.
Is the player involved? Mikayil Faye.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais has presented an initial bid to Barcelona for defender Mikayil Faye.
The proposal includes a transfer fee of approximately €10 million and a substantial sell-on clause ranging from 20% to 25%.
Barcelona has indicated that they are only willing to consider selling Faye if a buy-back clause is included in the deal.
Whether the Rennes management will agree to this condition remains to be seen.
Romano also highlights significant interest in the 20-year-old, and Deco, along with the Barcelona transfer team, is likely to need more time to expedite the approval of any deal.

Real Sociedad’s Sporting Director, Roberto Olabe, is likely lamenting the challenge of potentially replacing Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi in the same transfer window. While they seem to have identified a replacement for Merino, Zubimendi’s unexpected departure has caught them off guard.
The 25-year-old Euro 2024 champion is considering an offer from Liverpool, with recent indications suggesting he is leaning towards accepting it. Luka Sucic was signed to replace Merino, and according to MD, if Zubimendi does depart, Real Sociedad will target Pepelu from Valencia as his replacement.
The former Levante player joined Mestalla last summer and quickly became a key figure in Ruben Baraja’s midfield, providing crucial balance to the team. While Baraja is reluctant to part with this essential midfielder, a €25 million offer from La Real could make a transfer feasible, considering Pepelu was acquired for only a fifth of that amount last year. Nevertheless, Baraja is determined to retain him, and Valencia has already turned down a €15 million bid from Borussia Dortmund.
The Txuri-Urdin have already discussed acquiring another Valencia midfielder, Javi Guerra, this summer. However, these talks have cooled since Sucic’s signing. It is challenging to find many La Liga-based alternatives that have performed better than Pepelu over the past year. While Jon Olasagasti could potentially fill this role, it would represent a considerable gamble for Imanol Alguacil.

Despite his consistent performances for Valencia, Giorgi Mamardashvili has heightened interest in his services with a standout showing for Georgia at Euro 2024. It seems most probable that his next destination will be the Premier League.
Newcastle United was among the clubs most linked with Mamardashvili but could not finalize a transfer. While Saudi Arabian clubs also showed interest, the 23-year-old goalkeeper has preferred joining a major European club.
However, the move might take time to happen. There are recent suggestions that Liverpool could sign Mamardashvili and then loan him out as a future replacement for Alisson Becker, an option reportedly offered by Valencia. Fabrizio Romano has indicated that this prospect appeals to Mamardashvili and is open to such an arrangement. Liverpool knows a deal could be secured for around €30 million, leaving it to them to decide whether to proceed.
At 31, Liverpool would expect to benefit from several more years of top-level performance from Alisson. The Brazil international also has three years remaining on his contract, so a departure is unlikely in the immediate future. Financially, it might make sense to consider selling Alisson next summer if they can secure a substantial fee, with Mamardashvili potentially stepping in as his replacement. Nevertheless, it would be reasonable for Liverpool to prefer retaining the experienced Brazilian for now.
