In a stunning display of dominance, Japan’s national football team completed their second-round campaign of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers with a perfect record, winning all six matches. Their final game against Syria on Tuesday resulted in a decisive 5-0 victory, demonstrating the Samurai Blue’s unstoppable form.
From the outset, Japan seized command of the match, demonstrating its superiority and asserting dominance on the field. The scoring opened in the 13th minute, with Ayase Ueda, formerly of Kashima Antlers, now playing for Feyenoord in the Netherlands, expertly heading a cross into Syria’s net.
Just six minutes later, Japan extended their lead to 2-0 when Ritsu Doan, a Gamba Osaka product, cut in on his left foot and skillfully wrong-footed the Syrian goalkeeper with a blistering near-post shot. The Samurai Blue continued to put pressure on the opposing team. Syria inadvertently contributed to Japan’s scoring spree with an own goal that further widened the gap to 3-0 after just 21 minutes.
Japan focused on controlling the match’s pace to maintain their commanding lead while capitalizing on any opportunities to further assert their dominance. Eventually, their efforts paid off when Yuki Soma, who began his career with Nagoya Grampus, was taken down in the box. The subsequent penalty kick awarded by the referee was expertly executed by Soma, who drove the ball into the net to increase Japan’s lead to 4-0.
The final goal came in the 85th minute when Takumi Minamino, who started his career at Cerezo Osaka, showcased his exceptional skill by evading a defender with a series of quick moves before finishing with a perfectly placed curling shot that sealed the Samurai Blue’s emphatic 5-0 triumph.
Throughout the second round of the qualifiers, Japan won every match and outscored their opponents by an astounding 24-0 margin, highlighting their unwavering determination and skill on the international football stage. As the Samurai Blue move on to the third round of qualifying, set to begin in September, they’ll strive to maintain their perfect form and secure a highly anticipated spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
