The top three teams in the Meiji Yasuda J1 League maintained their positions after securing victories in Matchweek 7, solidifying their status as the dominant trio at the forefront of the competition. Let’s take a closer look at FC Machida Zelvia, Sanfrecce Hiroshima, and Cerezo Osaka, along with a recap of the performances from the rest of the league in the past week:
FC Machida Zelvia has continued to make waves in their inaugural season in the J1 League, demonstrating impressive form and resilience as they maintain their status at the summit of the league table. In a highly competitive match against Kawasaki Frontale, they managed to secure a hard-fought victory, showcasing their determination and skill on the pitch. The match was intense, with both teams battling fiercely for control. However, it was Shota Fujio who emerged as the hero of the day, as he expertly found the back of the net. His goal came after a perfectly timed and executed cross from Kazuki Fujimoto, who displayed exceptional vision and precision to set up the scoring opportunity. This victory not only reinforces FC Machida Zelvia’s position at the top but also highlights their potential as a formidable force in the league.
Shonan Bellmare faced a tough blow when Song Bum-keung received a red card just after halftime, which significantly hindered their chances. Yuki Ohashi capitalized on this opportunity, scoring both goals for Sanfrecce and keeping them just one point behind Zelvia in a tightly contested race for the top spot.
Léo Ceará netted the only goal of the match to secure victory for Cerezo Osaka, who remain in close contention with Sanfrecce. Justin Hubner made a notable debut off the bench, helping to solidify the defense and maintain the lead as Cerezo continues to push for the top position.
In a thrilling encounter, strikers Anderson Lopes and Taisei Miyashiro exchanged goals, but the turning point came when Vissel’s goalkeeper Daiya Maekawa received a red card. Yan Matheus took advantage of the situation, scoring a stunning goal to clinch all three points for Yokohama.
Urawa Reds dominated their match against Sagan Tosu, with Thiago Santana opening the scoring just five minutes in. The Reds never looked back, as goals from Yusuke Matsuo and Tomoaki Okubo followed, propelling them to a total of 11 points and placing them level with Vissel in fourth.
FC Tokyo delivered a memorable performance on Kokuritsu Day, earning a solid win over Kashima Antlers. Goals from Teruhito Nakagawa and Riki Harakawa showcased their dominance, much to the delight of the home crowd.
Tokyo Verdy extended their unbeaten streak to four matches with Fuki Yamada scoring his third goal of the season. Meanwhile, Kosuke Kinoshita’s goal for Kashiwa Reysol resulted in a third consecutive draw for the team, keeping both sides competitive in the standings.
In a match where Fukuoka outshot Nagoya three to one, neither team was able to break the deadlock, resulting in a scoreless draw that left both sides wanting more.
Júbilo Iwata celebrated a remarkable away victory in Kyoto, with a goal from Shunsuke Nishikubo and two from Matheus Peixoto, lifting them up to 11th place and marking a significant achievement for the newly promoted side.
Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo finally secured their first victory of the season, much to the excitement of their fans at the Sapporo Dome. Hiroki Miyazawa’s second-half header not only earned the win but also handed Gamba Osaka their first loss of the campaign.
