As the 2024–25 NFL Championship season approaches, Norwich City has been comparatively quiet in the transfer market thus far. The only new arrival at the beginning of the window was 23-year-old Jose Cordoba, a Panamanian defender who replaced Ben Gibson, who joined Stoke City on a free transfer after his contract at Carrow Road expired at the end of the previous season.
There hasn’t been much news about new arrivals at Carrow Road, with players like Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Sara linked to a move to Serie A outfit Atalanta and promotion rivals Leeds United, and Adam Idah, who has been linked with a return to Celtic after spending the second half of last season on loan with the side and impressing head coach Brendan Rodgers. Just two weeks remain until the season starts, and many fans are already predicting who might join the team and leave.
Hans Hoff Thorup, Norwich City’s head coach, spoke with The PinkUn, a local media outlet after the team lost 1-0 to 2. Bundesliga team FC Madgeburg has announced they will soon name a new left back.
Hoff Thorup responded when asked about possible incomings: “What did I say to you last time? [about the appointment of a set piece coach].”
Hoff Thorup stated that the appointment for the new set piece coach was almost inevitable in the prior interview, and he reiterated this in the PinkUn interview:
“Maybe I will say the same this time.”
Manchester City defender Callum Doyle, who has had successful loan stints with Leicester City and Hull City, has been strongly linked to the club. According to the BBC, Doyle, a young player who can play both central defense and left back, was allowed to go on loan to the Canaries by senior Manchester City figures.
Meanwhile, the Canaries have been linked to Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Spanish full-back Hugo Bueno, who is currently developing with the team after Wolves turned down an initial loan move offer.
Many Norwich fans are not surprised to learn that Irish striker Adam Idah is linked with a move back to Celtic after agreeing a half-season loan to the Scottish side in January. There are also credible links with Serie A clubs Fiorentina and Hellas Verona, with the striker putting out some of the highest goals per minute of play in Europe in the second half of last season.
Idah scored nine goals in 19 appearances for Celtic in the second half of last season and registered two assists, with an average rating of 7.1/10 on FotMob. The striker currently has four years left on his contract at Norwich. Therefore, the club appears to have a firm value of £6 million for any entertainment offers. Hoff Thorup has confirmed that Idah is an integral part of his plans for next season.
With 48 appearances throughout the season, including both play-off semi final legs against Leeds United, the Brazilian midfielder was a key component of Norwich’s play-off push the previous year.
Sara led the Norwich team in scoring with 13 goals and 12 assists in the previous Championship campaign. With his deft passing, timing tackling, and precise set-pieces, Sara was statistically the most valuable player on the field. So, it should not be shocking that one of the club’s most valuable assets has been the subject of intense transfer rumors.
Sara’s services are reportedly “confident” that Championship rivals Leeds United will obtain them for approximately £6 million. At the start of the transfer window, AS Roma, a Serie A team, stated that they were interested in Sara. However, they later moved on to other targets, stating that Norwich had set their asking price too high, with the fee reportedly ranging between £20 million and £26 million.
Recently, there have been rumors that Crystal Palace of the Premier League and Atalanta, the holders of the Europa League, are also interested in the midfield player and have expressed “tangible interest.”
Wolverhampton Wanderers, a Premier League team, are rumored to have shown interest in Norwich’s breakout star. Still, the player has yet to draw much attention thus far in this transfer window. While Rowe was being pursued by Tottenham Hotspur during the January transfer window, no deal was reached during that period.
In 34 games for the Canaries last season, the 21-year-old English winger—who scored on his England U-21 debut—found the net 13 times and provided an assist three times. During one stretch, Rowe made history by becoming the first Norwich City player to score in five straight games since the end of World War Two. The forward in the Carabao Cup scored once and provided an assist once.
Being an academy product, Rowe currently represents the club’s most valuable asset, and should a move become necessary, it will be pure profit.
