Ipswich crushed Sheffield Wednesday 6-0 to reclaim second spot – EFL CHAMPIONSHIP

Ipswich stormed back into second place in the Championship with a 6-0 victory over struggling Sheffield Wednesday. Omari Hutchinson and Ali Al-Hamadi scored twice, helping Ipswich leapfrog Leeds, who play Millwall on Sunday.

Ipswich took complete control with three first-half goals at Portman Road. Cameron Burgess and Nathan Broadhead joined Hutchinson in finding the net. Their dominant performance showcased their attacking prowess and set the tone for a commanding victory, leaving Sheffield Wednesday struggling to respond.

Hutchinson netted a brilliant fourth shortly after the break. At the same time, Al-Hamadi came off the bench to score twice, securing their biggest win of the season. Sheffield Wednesday occupies the 23rd position in the league table, sitting just one point away from safety and desperately fighting to avoid relegation as the season progresses.

West Brom extended their unbeaten run to six games with a solid 2-0 win over Bristol City. Tom Fellows opened the scoring just before halftime, with Jed Wallace tapping in Conor Townsend’s cross five minutes after the restart to seal the win.

Norwich strengthened their play-off push with a 3-0 victory at relegation-threatened Stoke. Josh Sargent, Gabriel Sara, and Ashley Barnes scored as David Wagner’s side secured their sixth win in nine games, leaving Stoke just two points above the drop zone.

Preston reignited their play-off ambitions with a 1-0 win at Plymouth, thanks to Liam Millar’s 43rd-minute goal. The victory lifted Preston to ninth place in the league standings, just five points off sixth-placed Norwich, keeping their play-off hopes alive. Meanwhile, Plymouth endured a disappointing afternoon, suffering their fourth straight home defeat, which seriously jeopardizes their survival chances as they continue to struggle on their home turf.

Blackburn’s winless run under John Eustace stretched to eight games after a 0-0 draw at Middlesbrough. It was Rovers’ third consecutive draw, leaving them three points clear of relegation. Middlesbrough remains unbeaten in their last four matches, showcasing a solid performance; however, their aspirations for a top-six finish are growing increasingly slim as the competition intensifies.

Swansea secured victory in the South Wales derby with a 2-0 win over Cardiff City. Liam Cullen opened the scoring with a volley past Ethan Horvath in the 34th minute, marking his sixth goal of the season during a dominant first-half performance from Swansea. Although Cullen missed a penalty shortly after halftime, Jamal Lowe sealed the win with a late goal in injury time. This result gave Luke Williams’s side back-to-back home victories for the first time under his management. At the same time, Cardiff’s loss ended their impressive four-game winning streak.

Sunderland snapped their six-match losing run with a goalless draw against QPR at the Stadium of Light. Clear opportunities were challenging for both teams, with Ilias Chair and Lucas Andersen coming closest for the visitors in the first half. Substitute Sinclair Armstrong posed a threat in the second half. Still, the best opportunity fell to Chris Willock, whose shot was saved by Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson.

In his first match in interim charge, Tom Cleverley led Watford to a hard-fought 1-0 win against struggling Birmingham. Emmanuel Dennis scored the only goal just before halftime, capitalizing on a defensive error from the home side, securing all three points for Watford at St Andrew’s.

Rotherham ended their grim streak of losses by drawing 0-0 with 10-man Huddersfield. With this result, the Millers avoided a 10th consecutive defeat but remained firmly at the bottom of the table, 19 points adrift of safety. They have yet to win since Boxing Day. Meanwhile, Huddersfield’s troubles continue as Sorba Thomas will be suspended after receiving two yellow cards during the match, adding to their relegation concerns.
