As the Championship season approaches, QPR is focused on strengthening its squad ahead of Marti Cifuentes’ first entire campaign.

The Hoops positively ended the 2023/24 season, finishing 18th and six points clear of relegation. Cifuentes’ impact since joining the club has sparked optimism at Loftus Road, with hopes high for the upcoming season.

QPR have already signed Daniel Bennie, Paul Nardi, Liam Morrison, Hevverton Santos, and Zan Celar, but Cifuentes may still want to strengthen his squad further before their opening match against West Brom.

Pre-season results have been mixed, with victories over Spanish sides L’Escala and FC Santa Coloma followed by defeats to domestic rivals Reading and Tottenham. These losses have highlighted areas where QPR needs to improve, particularly in midfield and on the flanks. With that in mind, here are two signings they should consider making before the Championship campaign kicks off.

Ethan Erhahon

QPR might still use another central midfield player this summer, and a move for Ethan Erhahon of Lincoln City would be a declaration of purpose.

Andre Dozell and Taylor Richards, two key players, left the Hoops on free transfers this summer. Their departure has left a void in the center midfield, and as a result, Cifuentes may be looking to add a player to his roster to fill this gap.

Erhahon is a natural fit. He previously showed promise with the Imps in League One, where he won the team’s Player of the Season award in the 2023–2024 season.

For Lincoln, the 23-year-old has made such an impression that Jez George, the team’s director of football, has said in the past that they anticipate Erhahon bringing in a club-record sum if he is moved.

This demonstrates his exceptional talent, and it’s surprising that a Championship team hasn’t tried to sign the Scottish midfielder this summer.

Erhahon, who is 23 years old, can only become better. Should QPR sign him, he has the potential to be a profitable player for the team in the future.

The former St. Mirren player appears to be a true talent, and he might strengthen Cifuentes’s midfield.

Amadou Diallo

After leaving Newcastle United earlier this summer, 21-year-old winger Amadou Diallo is a free agent and might be an excellent addition to Cifuentes’ squad.

In his two years at St James’ Park, the left-winger has only made one appearance in the first team, coming off the bench against Chelsea in November last year. This season, he hopes to play more often in the first team.

Despite Daniel Bennie’s recent arrival, QPR’s roster needs more depth at the flank position. Diallo is a free agent, so adding him to the team would be a low-risk decision.

Diallo recorded two goals and two assists in 18 Premier League 2 appearances for Newcastle’s U21 team last season; nonetheless, at this point in his career, he should regularly play senior games.

Having played for major league teams, the former England U17 international joined Newcastle from West Ham in 2022. He is clearly a talented player.

The 21-year-old, originally from Canning Town, could find a personal and professional return to London appealing. Moving to Loftus Road would allow him to be closer to home, which might be a significant factor in his decision-making process.

More importantly, transferring to QPR would provide him with the consistent first-team football he has sought. Regular playing time is crucial for his development. It would allow him to showcase his talents on a more frequent basis.

This opportunity could be the perfect setting for him to gain the experience and confidence necessary to advance his career.
