Accrington Stanley, Wycombe Wanderers, Plymouth Argyle, Blackpool, and Wrexham AFC are among the teams featured in WhoScored.com’s first EFL Team of the Week for 2024.

Goalkeeper: Joe Walsh (Accrington Stanley) – 8.25 rating

Accrington secured a 3-0 home win over Salford, but Joe Walsh had to step up to keep a clean sheet. He made five crucial saves and claimed two high balls, earning a solid 8.25 rating.

Centre-back: Oliver Casey (Blackpool) – 9.22 rating

Blackpool continued their winning form at home with a 2-0 victory over Port Vale, partly thanks to Oliver Casey’s stellar performance. He scored his season’s first league goal, won 11 aerial duels, and made nine clearances and three interceptions, achieving a 9.22 rating.

Owen Bailey played a crucial role in Doncaster’s 3-0 win over MK Dons, earning an 8.38 rating. His defensive effort included six clearances, four interceptions, one tackle, and winning two aerial duels.

Centre-back: Ryan Tafazolli (Wycombe Wanderers) – 8.29 rating

Ryan Tafazolli helped Wycombe break a 12-game winless streak with a 3-2 win against Bristol Rovers. Tafazolli was involved in two of Wycombe’s goals, scoring once and assisting another, along with taking three shots and providing a key pass, securing an 8.29 rating.

Right midfield: Tatsuhiro Sakamoto (Coventry City) – 8.91 rating

Coventry City secured an impressive 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough on Monday, with Tatsuhiro Sakamoto shining as the standout player. The 27-year-old scored twice, once on either side of halftime, from three shots overall. He also contributed with four key passes and interceptions, earning a well-deserved 8.91 rating from WhoScored.com.

Central midfield: Isaac Hutchinson (Walsall) – 9.44 rating

Isaac Hutchinson delivered a stellar performance in Walsall’s 6-0 win at Grimsby, earning recognition as the third player of the match. The 23-year-old was involved in three of the Saddlers’ goals, scoring twice from four shots and assisting Danny Johnson’s late goal with one of his two key passes. His brilliant display earned him a 9.44 rating.

Central midfield: Finn Azaz (Plymouth Argyle) – 8.58 rating

Finn Azaz was impressed with Plymouth’s 3-3 draw with Watford, receiving an 8.58 rating. He scored once from seven shots and made nine key passes, narrowly missing out on an assist. His all-around performance helped him secure a spot in this week’s team.

Left midfield: Harrison Burrows (Peterborough United) – 8.80 rating

Harrison Burrows delivered an outstanding performance in Peterborough United’s 2-0 win against Derby at Pride Park. The 21-year-old was pivotal, scoring his third league goal early in the first half and assisting Poku’s late strike. In addition to his goal contributions, Burrows made four key passes, one shot, four clearances, and two tackles, earning him an impressive 8.80 rating from WhoScored.com.

Striker: Steven Fletcher (Wrexham AFC) – 9.79 rating

Steven Fletcher was the week’s star, earning a WhoScored.com rating of 9.79 for his dominant display in Wrexham’s 4-1 victory over Barrow, ending their 14-game unbeaten run. The 36-year-old striker netted three goals from five shots and won three aerial duels, securing his place as the player of the week.
