After coming off the bench, Joe Aribo scored a stoppage-time winner as Southampton edged past 10-man Birmingham 4-3 in a thrilling encounter. Desperate for a win after losing four of their last five matches, Russell Martin’s Saints fought back twice. Birmingham struck early through Koji Miyoshi, but Adam Armstrong equalized for Southampton. Jay Stansfield restored Birmingham’s lead before halftime, putting Southampton under pressure again. However, the Saints’ depth and resilience paid off. Aribo netted late to secure a much-needed win and keep their promotion hopes alive.
David Brooks netted a stunning equalizer. Che Adams put Martin’s side ahead, especially after Birmingham’s captain, Dion Sanderson, received a red card, seemingly ending the contest. However, the game took another twist when Birmingham leveled through Juninho Bacuna, only for Aribo to score a potentially crucial stoppage-time winner for Southampton.
In a surprising turn of events, Leicester’s lead at the top of the table has been reduced to just three points after relegation-threatened QPR secured a shocking 2-1 victory at King Power Stadium. Goals from Ilias Chair and substitute Sinclair Armstrong—who found the net with his first touch shortly after coming on—helped Rangers claim their third consecutive win. Although Leicester responded quickly with a goal from teenage defender Ben Nelson, they could not equalize, suffering their third straight league defeat. This win was crucial for QPR, moving them just one place up the table, still outside the bottom three only on goal difference.
Ipswich returned to second place with a 2-0 victory over Plymouth. Kieffer Moore secured the win in the 74th minute after Conor Chaplin’s shot was deflected in by home defender Brendan Galloway in the 63rd minute.
Leeds’ attempt to achieve a club record of 10 consecutive league wins ended in a 1-1 draw against 10-man Huddersfield. The hosts took the lead through defender Michal Helik before captain Jonathan Hogg was sent off. Patrick Bamford, making a return, managed to level the score, but Leeds’ perfect league record in 2024 was halted as they had to settle for a point.
Play-off contenders Preston and Hull played to a frustrating 0-0 draw at Deepdale, which ultimately benefited neither club. Despite creating several scoring opportunities, Preston couldn’t convert any chances, although they did extend their unbeaten streak to seven matches.
Norwich kept their play-off aspirations alive with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sunderland, thanks to Josh Sargent’s goal in the 81st minute. This marked Sargent’s seventh consecutive home goal, helping the Canaries secure their fifth win at Carrow Road.
Cardiff achieved a Severnside derby double against Bristol City with a 1-0 victory at Ashton Gate. Perry Ng’s header in the 66th minute gave Cardiff back-to-back wins, lifting them above City in the table after a four-match winless streak.
In another tight contest, Zian Flemming’s early free-kick was enough for Millwall to secure a 1-0 win over Watford at The Den. This victory marks two wins in two matches since Neil Harris’s return as manager. With several struggling teams also picking up points, the win was crucial for Millwall, keeping them one point above the relegation zone. Watford, meanwhile, remain six points clear of trouble. Still, their fifth defeat in six games has raised concerns about being pulled into the fierce battle against relegation.
Stoke achieved a crucial victory in their battle for survival, defeating Middlesbrough 2-0. A strike from Bae Jun-ho just before halftime—his second goal in many games—set the Potters on course for victory. Lewis Baker capped off a well-executed corner routine to secure a rare home win. This much-needed result alleviated some pressure on manager Steven Schumacher as the club faces the looming threat of relegation to the third tier for the first time since 1998.
Luke Williams finally celebrated his first league home win as Swansea head coach with a 2-1 victory over Blackburn after four consecutive defeats at home. First-half goals from Joe Allen and Jamie Paterson put Swansea ahead. At the same time, Sammie Szmodics, the division’s top scorer, pulled one back for Blackburn just past the hour mark. However, Rovers couldn’t capitalize on their dominance in the second half.
Sheffield Wednesday also made strides in their fight against relegation, securing a valuable 1-0 win against local rivals Rotherham. Ike Ugbo’s sixth goal in five matches proved decisive, leaving the Owls three points from safety. At the same time, Rotherham now finds themselves a daunting 19 points adrift of the survival zone.
