Last Friday, the San Salvador Beach Soccer Stadium was alive with excitement and shared emotions during the inauguration ceremony of 30 new socio-sports schools. This initiative, promoted by INDES and the FUNDACIÓN LA LIGA, aims to positively impact Central America.

Yamil Bukele, the honorary president of the National Institute of Sports of El Salvador (INDES), announced the new locations for the project. The program seeks to enhance the lives of young Salvadorans through football. It promotes inclusion, job placement, value-based education, violence prevention, and entrepreneurship.

The program has garnered significant community support, with local families and organizations expressing enthusiasm for the opportunities these schools will create. By providing access to sports and educational resources, the LA LIGA Values and Opportunity program strives to empower the next generation, instilling essential life skills and values that can lead to a brighter future for all participants.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by officials from INDES, the Ministry of Education, and representatives from the newly inaugurated schools.

The new schools will be established in various districts, including Coatepeque, Santa Ana, Apaneca, Ahuachapán, Atiquizaya, Izalco, Chalatenango, San Salvador, La Libertad, Sensuntepeque, Tejutepeque, Jutiapa, Ilobasco, Cojutepeque, Apastepeque, Villa El Carmen, San Vicente, San Cayetano, San Miguel, Estanzuela, and San Francisco Gotera.

During the event, certificates were awarded to 161 new monitors for the LALIGA Values and Opportunity project, who will serve as physical education teachers in the national public education system. This initiative ensures that the positive values of football are instilled in the project’s academies and reach a broader audience of Salvadoran students, creating a multiplier effect for the program’s impact.

Additionally, sports equipment was distributed to a group of enthusiastic boys and girls from the program, drawing a large crowd eager to learn more about the educational and training opportunities. The event highlighted the community’s interest in supporting youth development through sports and education.

Yamil Bukele stressed that “this programme was created to develop, nurture, and training productive and good individuals for our society. We are very proud of the objectives achieved since its inception and of all the work and effort being dedicated for the benefit of our youth”.

The Director of FUNDACIÓN LALIGA, Olga de la Fuente, expressed her excitement about accomplishing this milestone in turn: “It fills us with satisfaction to see how this program has evolved over the years to become a highly useful pillar and a benchmark programme for

Salvadoran youth. The opening of these new socio-sports schools not only extends our reach, but also reinforces our commitment to education in values and social inclusion through sport.

Every young person who is part of this project has the opportunity to develop not only their athletic skills but also the abilities that will allow them to build a better future for themselves and their communities”.

Since its inception in 2019, the program has inaugurated 213 socio-sports schools, directly benefiting 278,603 children across all regions of El Salvador. Over the past four years, 4,536 training sessions have been conducted, resulting in more than 900 coaches training, while 14 camps have engaged over 700 participants.

The LA LIGA Values and Opportunity program has become a global benchmark for sport-for-development initiatives. It is recognized for its significant quantitative and qualitative impact. It demonstrates exceptional efficiency in both investment and implementation, setting a high standard for similar programs worldwide.

Moreover, the program emphasizes sports and essential life skills, fostering values such as teamwork, respect, and discipline among participants. This holistic approach aims to empower children and young people, preparing them for future challenges on and off the field. As the program grows, it remains committed to creating opportunities for youth development and community engagement throughout El Salvador.
