For the second year, an institutional visit of this kind to fortify the intelligence network between K LEAGUE and LALIGA clubs has occurred.
For the second year, K LEAGUE CEOs visited Spain to exchange knowledge with LA LIGA clubs as part of the ongoing partnership between the two leagues. This year, executives met with officials from Villarreal CF, Valencia CF, and RCD Espanyol to share insights and explore new opportunities for collaboration. They also attended LA LIGA EA SPORTS, LA LIGA HYPERMOTION, and Liga F matches to experience the excitement of Spanish football firsthand.
Last season, LA LIGA and the K LEAGUE extended their collaboration agreement through 2026, expanding the scope of their joint initiatives. These now include competitions and training in areas such as audiovisual production and financial fair play and collaboration in women’s football, technology, innovation, and key strategic issues like fighting hate and discrimination. Campaigns like “VS Racism” and “VS Bullying” are central to this effort.
The relationship between LALIGA and K LEAGUE clubs has always been strong. In the past, youth teams from FC Seoul, Ulsan Hyundai, and Jeonbuk Hyundai have played against youth sides from Atlético de Madrid and CD Leganés. In contrast, LALIGA youth teams have competed in international tournaments in South Korea. Later in 2024, additional training sessions will be held in Spain, where K LEAGUE coaches will receive specialized training from LALIGA and its club coaches.
“We’re very proud of the work being carried out through the MOU (memorandum of understanding) with the K LEAGUE, which is bringing Spanish and Korean football closer together. We’ve been collaborating more closely for almost four years now, both through LALIGA and its clubs, and the synergies between the two competitions are driving progress in this regard,” said Sangwon Seo, LALIGA delegate in South Korea.
“First and foremost, we want to express enormous gratitude to LALIGA for organising this visit and to the clubs for welcoming us. This is our second consecutive year visiting LALIGA teams alongside the CEOs of our clubs, where we’ve been able to hear about the different business strategies of various teams first hand.
Being able to have this experience with clubs such as Valencia CF, Villarreal CF and RCD Espanyol is very productive for K League clubs that want to keep improving to become more sustainable in the long term. We look forward to continuing this great strategic relationship with LALIGA for many years to come,” said Yeon-Sang Cho, the K League’s secretary general.
With the heightened interest surrounding the Atlético de Madrid vs. Real Madrid match, many of LALIGA’s international broadcasters kicked off their #LA LIGA GOAT campaigns with this iconic derby.
ESPN Argentina leveraged the popularity of its “Generación F” talent by inviting fans to predict the top scorer in LA LIGA—Kylian Mbappé or Julián Álvarez—offering the chance to win one of their jerseys. Similarly, renowned presenter Inna Puhajkova from Nova Sport in the Czech Republic showcased the jerseys of both clubs, attracting over 3,000 participants in a sweepstakes.
Other broadcasters, including Megogo in Ukraine, beIN Australia, DigitAlb in Albania, and Blue Sport in Switzerland, also promoted the kits of both Madrid teams to engage their audiences in the inaugural #LA LIGA GOAT contest of the season.
In Southeast Asia, SCTV Vietnam utilized its TikTok account to host a contest where followers guessed Jude Bellingham’s signature celebration to win LA LIGA prizes. Meanwhile, in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore, beIN Sports and its main sub-licensees encouraged subscribers to predict which player would score first in the Madrid derby through numerous collaborative posts.
Canal Plus in Africa also ran a campaign asking fans to identify the coach with the most titles. At the same time, DAZN in Taiwan and Japan engaged fans with contests to select their favorite jersey from the various EA Sports LA LIGA clubs.
These initiatives mark the start of an exciting season filled with activations designed to bring LALIGA closer to fans worldwide.
